Balance Of Power

This was the first Undercover album I paid full price for... which is alright, because it was certainly far better (to me, anyway) than the Geoff Moore album I bought the same day at a discount price. It wasn't exactly what I expected, insofar as it sounded like a completely different band than that of 3-28-87. The music, though was very solid... nice touches like the left and right speaker guitars in The Way of The Rose made it more than just another rock album.

Band Members:

Ojo-Keyboards/Bass
Gym- Guitars, background vocals
Sim- Lead vocals
Gary- Drums, percussion, background vocals

Songs

1. World Come Crashing Down
2. The Way Of The Rose
3. The Eyes Of Love
4. Land Of Luxury
5. Time
6. Love Me Dangerously
7. Light Of Day
8. Last Rites (There Is No Sky)
9. Bridge Of Life
10. I Love You So
11. Mea Culpa/Remember Me

A complete 11-song album...very musical, yet very unlike WhiteHeart, Petra and all the other Christian bands I was listening to... this album got me through some of the rougher times of the early teenage years. And to this day, I still get shivers up my spine when I hear Sim's scream in the last song...

A very difficult album to follow up on... yet almost too dark in tone. The overall tone of the album made a lot more sense when I read an article in Syndicate about Undercover's albums. It was with great eagerness that I anticipated the release of their next album, Devotion.

Lyrics

World Come Crashing Down

I can see it's hard to read your eyes.
Your eyes are all prepared to take me for a ride.
Oh my soul upset, I'm so upset, the world come crashing down
The balance of power is all upset and now we're going down

Trust me now, but don't you come too near
Too near is just too close to where we stand right now
I fear it's all upset, degenerate, the world come crashing down
The balance of power is all upset and now we're going down...

The Way of The Rose

Come back to me
The flowers are dying, you see
Mystery
All turn and leave silently

You never told me the end of the story

Rest me now
Pray for the morning
Show me how to suffer the mourning

You never told me the end of the story
Where are you going?
You never told me

Nine-and-thirty beats the daylights out of me
Three, Seven, Nine*
All fall down another time on the Way of the Rose

You never told me the end of the story
Along the Way of the Rose

Wipe clean the brow
Cry for yourselves and for your children
Autumn comes, a symptom of the times
Watch the flowers die

You never told me the end of the story
Along the Way of the Rose

The Eyes of Love

When the sun is falling
Smell the fragrant bittersweet
Your shadow disappearing
Just before our lips can meet
A million questions burning
From the flame that melted you
Begging for the answers
Continue looking through the eyes of love

Another day is calling
The Son has come to take the Bride
Wake up from the dreaming
Still six steps from by your side
A million questions burning
From the flame that melted you
Begging for the answers
Continue looking through the eyes of love

In the heat tonight
I see scarlet tragedy
Alone I stand
Facing mortal man
Tonight I see
Just what you mean to me
Alone I stand facing...

Land Of Luxury

Can freedom ring in this new frontier
With hungry cries so very near
Irony, spend your money boys
On your children not on your atomic toys
Here in the land of luxury

Can justice reign in this world grown cold
Can I live when I grow old
Irony, spend your money boys
On your children or they cannot fight your wars
In the land of luxury

Time

Look into the future
What will you see
And when the hands of time take today into tomorrow
What will there be
I think I see
The poetry of the people is no longer spoken
And the will of the willing has long since been broken
Silver and gold have become the brass token
Silver and gold have become the brass token

Time is slipping away from me

Look into tomorrow
What will there be
Too many yesterdays to count
And now the sand in the hourglass is running out
The laughter of the children has long since been halted
By the nuclear crimes that man has assaulted
They try to blame God but He cannot be faulted
They try to blame God but He cannot be faulted

Time is slipping away from me

Come little baby, don't you cry
Come little baby, dry your eyes
Your daddy's going to come down from the sky

Time is slipping away from me

Love Me Dangerously

Suddenly, with no surprise
It's in your mind, it's in your eyes
You wanted something more than I could share
How could you know, how could you care
It just isn't fair, you said
Love me dangerously

Feelings are a fragile toy
That loneliness can soon destroy
Love's arrow can become a poison dart
One more broken heart, broken heart
Would rip my soul apart, you said
Love me dangerously

Suddenly with no surprise
It's in your mind, it's in your eyes
You wanted more
So I gave you more, I gave you more
Than I've ever given before, you said
Love me dangerously

Light Of Day

In the twilight mist
I lay my head to rest
Watching over me
Angels on their knees
And in the morning dew
Another love comes true
Nothing to betray in the light of day

Light of day
You'll see the light of day with me

In the twilight mist
When the sun and moon kiss
I'll be there with you
I'll be there with you
And when the morning comes
Another love stays one
There's nothing to betray in the light of day

Light of day
You'll see the light of day with me

Last Rites (There Is No Sky)

Cathedral tall, Cathedral wide
Grace provides a place to hide
Hour of evil, hour of sin
Open up the gates and let me in

Hour of anger
Pray to die
Ours is anguish
There is no sky

Robes sweep cobblestone brick
Rosary beads and pictures
Hour of fear, the hour of danger
Holy chants, the sounds of angels
mother, Father, sister, Son
Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done

Hour of anger
Pray to die
Ours is anguish
There is no sky

Last Rites:
Nothing really matters
Come close to me
Incense burning
Pour the oil on me

Bridge of Life

Darkest night and searching skies
I can almost see your eyes
In the stars you wait for me
Until I'm free to walk the bridge of life

Painted clouds of fire red
I saw your face and what was said
On the winds you wait for me
Until I'm free to cross the bridge of life

Wait for me
Until the dawn
Until I'm free
Upon the bridge of life

Mountains rise and all is still
Your voice comes calling from the chill
Whispering you wait for me
Until I'm free to cross the bridge of life

Spanning sea of bitter tears
Hypnotic cry to pass the years
Wait for me until the dawn
Welcome me upon the bridge of life

Wait for me
Until the dawn
Until I'm free
Upon the bridge of life

I Love You So

Don't you remember
Whisper to me, promised to me
I'll never leave you, never hurt me
Now I'm listening
I called Your name, no answer came
Another day gone by
and even so, I love you so
How I miss you, how I love you so

I've been looking high and low
To find someone like you
Now you're gone
Forever gone the hopes and dreams we shared
I called your name, it sounds the same
As empty days gone by
And even so, I love you so
How I miss you, how I love you so

Mea Culpa/Remember Me

I have seen my faults today
I remember yesterday
Mea Culpa, Mea Culpa
Kyrie, Kyrie, Mea Culpa

Skies turned black, thunder crack
Women crying, dressed in black
Mea Culpa, Mea Culpa
Kyrie, Mea Maxima Culpa

Tell me please who took the flame when seasons pass and all's the same as yesterday, it's growing cold, it's getting dull, it's growing old.

The hands of time with fingers crossed will lie to keep what must be lost.
Winds and tides will wash away all memories.
Remember me.
Tell me how to keep the flame when seasons pass the time away.
Remember how you love me, how you see me, how you love to see me.

Remember me

Know, you know, you stole my heart, my soul and yours are one.
I never want to have it back, to always feel we've just begun to feel the heat, to feel the rage, of life and love; the wars we wage.
Live for you, Die for you,
I'm head and heels in love with you.

Remember Me

Search the heavens for a sign
Blood and water, sour wine
Mea Culpa, Mea Culpa
Kyrie, Mea Maxima Culpa
