Boys and Girls-- Renounce the World!

Boys And GirlsThis was Undercover's third album, featuring songs like "Boys and Girls", another excellent song. It marks the beginning of a more mature style for the band, not nearly as bright in tone, with a more serious turn to the lyrics (although still rather, well, primitive in some senses). Released in 1984 (MRC/A&S), rereleased in 1988 as part of Volume 2 on Broken Records, and rereleased as tracks 1-11 of the Undercover Anthology Volume 1, disc 2.

Band Members

Turner Burn (Ojo)--Keyboards, Bass
Neel Down (Gym)--Guitars
Bill Walden--Lead Vocals

*- this song appears twice on the Anthology Volume 1 (tracks 1 and 11 of disc 2), once with Bill singing lead, and once with Sim Wilson.
**- this song doesn't appear on the original album, nor on Volume 2. It is included in the Anthology Volume 1 as a hidden track before track 1, "Boys and Girls" at the start of the CD. It originally was available by mail (as a single) and at concerts, no doubt, from the band, with the Sim Wilson Boys and Girls on the flipside.
Also, Glorified was always an instrumental. The listed lyrics are for contemplation while you listen, but don't fit the tune.

Boys & Girls

Babies climbed up on His knee, He said "Let them come to Me."
Little ones believe--Boys & Girls can see
The man said, "Take them all away, we've got important things to do today,
But little ones believe, Boys & Girls can see,

And I could see the world turn around
If I could live my life like that,
If we could live our lives like--Boys & Girls

Big men reach for the stars, spend tim on toys and cars
Politics and war and money from the poor
But the Kingdom belongs to a little child
And I don't wonder why
Cuz little ones believe Boys & Girls can see
God came down and died for kids like you and me

Talk To God

I need something that I can sink my teeth into cuz I'm not a strongman--
I need God's love to see me through

Are you listening? Are you listening?
He's a God of love, and He wants to hear from you
So Pray!
Talk to God, let's talk to God before the night is thru

Are you hungry or do you feel like the walking dead
Do you want another chance or do you like the pain inside your head

Holy, Holy, Holy

Holy Holy Holy, Lord God Almighty
Early in the morning our song shall rise to thee
Holy Holy Holy, Merciful & Mighty--God in Three persons, blessed Trinity

Holy Holy Holy, Lord God Almighty
Those who walk beside you will walk in Victory
Holy Holy Holy, Merciful & Mighty--Jesus take over and make me more like Thee

Fall Down--This world will all fall down
And all your little games and systems--They're not gonna be around
Fall Down--I fall down on my knees
And I Renounce The World--Cuz He's the one I want to please

Holy Holy Holy, Lord God Almighty
Early in the morning our song shall rise to Thee
Holy Holy Holy, Merciful & Mighty
Lord I have nothing but I give my heart to Thee
Lord I have nothing but I give my life to Thee

One Of These Days

One of these days you might be driving in your car, waving "Hi!"
And maybe singing as you go and then you're gone!
And they'll say "Hey where'd that guy go?" well it was Jesus
He came to take you home

One of these days you might be sitting at your desk typing stuff
Maybe thinking "What a mess!" and then it happens
And they'll say "Hey what's going on?" well it was Jesus saying
"Time to move along!"

And one of these days you might be dancing on the floor
Thinking "Man, I sure am pretty cool" and then it's over
And you'll say "Boy have I been blind" cuz it was Jesus
YOu know what? You've been left behind!

Three Nails

A friend mentioned you said you were kind
I didn't think much of it at that time
I had places to go and people to see
I thought that's how everything was supposed to be
But something hurt inside, I had no rest
And in my mind I can hear you say, I hear you say

Three nails, three days, one way to God

Those words keep echo echoing in my mind
In every decision I make I see you crucified
Such a hard death for you to die, such a hard death for me to buy
And yet I know, I know, I know that it had to be
The only way for you and for me--for you and me was

Three nails, three days, one way to God

Three nails, three days, one way to God
Through the hands on the cross out of the grave and into my heart

The Anthem

As children we come to God's Kingdom
Cuz Jesus said we could
This world's not our home, heaven's where we belong
We're just waiting for Jesus' return
So let's stand up and fight--To give in's not right
And Jesus we love you
We'll stand our ground, we'll crush sin down
And Jesus we'll follow you

We'll keep marching on, Bibles under our arms
To work, to school everyday.
If the teacher or boss says don't show me the cross
We'll just say we're doing it God's way
So let's stand up and fight--To give in's not right
And Jesus we love you
We'll stand our ground, we'll crush sin down
And Jesus we'll follow you.

He Lets Me Know

No-one scares me anymore
I'm not afraid to unlock my door

Because He lets me know
Because He lets me know
Because He lets me know His loving arms are around me.

And If I die before I wake
I know the Lord my soul will take
Because He lets me know
Because He lets me know
Because He lets me know His loving arms are around me.

I'm not special--you see
You can have the same as me
But you've got to let Him know--I'm sorry
Then He will let you know--you're forgiven
Then He will wrap His loving arms all around you

Glorified

note: This is an instrumental. I'm typing out the lyrics since they're on the album liner anyways
I've seen the works of Your Hand
Took a boy and made him a man
And now I want to see you glorified in me

I've seen the works of Your Hand
Made a simple man understand
And now I want to see you glorifed in me

I've seen the works of Your Hand
Make this man a child again
So I can see you glorified in me

Is Anyone Thirsty?

The cry went out years ago
The cry went out to thirsty souls
Things don't change like you think they do
The cry still goes out to me and you

Is anyone thirsty? Is anyone thirsty?
The cry went out to a thirsty crowd,
God stood up and cried out loud
If anyone then will come to me
I can turn his life around for free.
Is anyone thirsty? Is anyone thirsty?

The cry went out years ago
But who gets hurt if you say no?
Well you can come and drink or you can turn and go
But tell me--Who gets hurt if you say no?
Is anyone thirsty? Is anyone thirsty?

I'd Rather Stay

I long to see your face full of truth and grace
When can we go away
All I know is I'd rather stay
with you for one day
Than live a thousand years away

I'd rather watch your door
penniless and poor
Than to live with kings and have all great things
I'd rather stay
with you for one day
Than live a thousand years away
